Do you offer a Quasi Peak (QPeak) Detector for EMC tests?

PreviousPage 2 of 2

You can add multiple traces of the same type with different settings but a max from an AVG or QPeak makes no sense. Use the Max or Max Fall instead fo finde short glitches or signals.

I agree with you that it does not make a lot of sense for RF measurements, but I have no better idea how to perform this measurement with a real time SA otherwise.

How would you go about it if you had to measure the QP emissions (in this case conducted) in regards to a limit, where the signal is not constant and peaks in the frequency spectrum do not necessarily appear at the same time?

I was also playing around with the histogram trace, but that also takes the peak as input...

As mentioned add the QPeak as a reference trace. You can also move/adjust that trace within the power domain if needed.

I really don't understand how that helps me with the challenge I'm facing (not saying you are wrong but I can just not "see" it). Do you have an example?

Let me maybe explain in more detail what I'm am looking for...
The unit I want to test goes through a cycle and lets say this cycle takes 2 minutes. I want to measure the QP over the whole period of the 2 minutes and find the worst emissions in the whole spectrum in this time window.
The external test house we are using is doing it by making multiple QP measurements (realtime EMI receiver) during a cycle and maximizing over all measurements. I want to achieve something similar, so we can perform pre-compliance tests in-house.

We bought a Spectran V6 eco specially for this purpose and now I'm doubting if this is at all possible...

Looking through the documentation of the HTTP server I can see there is no possibility to retrieve the QP trace - is that correct?

So simply add an additional QPeak trace with a discharge time of 2 minutes then you get both measurements at the same time. I still would simply use the max hold trace - done. Or check the waterfall then you get a perfect time domain readout.

This is how all known test labs are operating since this offers the perfect signal analysis.

So I worked with it the last few days trying what you suggested and it works very well - so thank you for your help 🙂

Just to make sure - is it possible to export the QP trace through the HTTP server?

We added an optional "trace" output to the Spectrum block, to allow for cascading (e.g. max hold of quasi peak). The trace is selected with "View/Output Trace".

Implemented in 15777 or higher.

Thank you! That sounds very interesting.

I'm only able to find version 15767 on your website - how can I get a version where it is implemented?
